BELLINGHAM — Police officers spent about four hours trying to coax an intoxicated man armed with a machete out of a motor home on the 1100 block of West Bakerview Road early Sunday, Oct. 5.

Keith Rawlings, 40, was seen pushing his girlfriend, hacking at brush with a machete and then chopping at the home when she locked him out, Lt. Steve Felmley said.

Rawlings refused police requests to come out of the home after the girlfriend let him back in. Eventually officers fired pepper-spray balls into the home to flush him out.

Rawlings was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, malicious mischief and obstructing law enforcement, Felmley said. The girlfriend was not injured.
